Post 725 – Bull Session Week One

Bull Session Week One

Another season of Bull Session is here and I have the Week Zero version….I only saw one scrimmage: Paramus-Westwood and only one game, St. Joe’s (Montvale)-Good Counsel (Maryland)….The Battle at the Beach completed its first year in Ocean City, though flooding in town moved Sunday’s games to Camden Catholic. The best game, in my opinion, was Millville’s win over Union, followed by Salem-Camden….Millville has an electric freshman named Lotzier Brooks. He scored touchdowns in the second half on a kick return and a long pass reception and his speed stood out…..A sad reality is seeing a young player who is a sophomore or even a freshman and wondering if he will still be playing for his school by senior year. And it isn’t even a case of transferring to another Jersey school because the IMG’s of the world are getting a few of those kids….Bergen Catholic looked strong in their debut against Archbishop Hoban and it looked like a team effort all the way….New Jersey vs. Maryland last weekend was heavily in Maryland’s favor, as St. Joe’s (Montvale) lost to Good Counsel, Don Bosco lost to St. John’s College of Washington DC, Holy Spirit lost to DeMatha, and St. Augustine lost to Archbishop Spalding….Nobody asked me, but I am tired of seeing graduation signs on the lawn, especially when they celebrate some kid graduating from fifth grade…..The flooding across our state has caused changes to the Rumble on the Raritan at Rutgers. While Sunday is going as scheduled, the Saturday and Friday games are being played elsewhere, due to Rutgers postponing their game until Saturday…..South Jersey had other games besides the ones in Ocean City and Woodbury’s Teddy Lockhart had a big game, rushing for 211 yards and four touchdowns….And lost in the shuffle of Ocean City was Delran beating a very good Willingboro team….Red Bank Catholic looked good last week against Timber Creek….If Chris Berman was doing high school football games, he would call Brick Memorial’s Ben Wolley, “Ben Woolley Bully.” And he and his teammates would have no idea what it means…..Carteret is back after having last season cancelled on them and they are running the old-fashioned single wing. And it worked, as they beat JP Stevens 38-0….Woodbridge looked good beating a tough Winslow team and have a sophomore star in AJ Bosch….Wayne Hills lost an exciting game to Harrisonville (Mo.), 38-37 in Missouri….TV commercials I hate are those Draft Kings ones and the Liberty Mutual ones with the emu. I don’t mind the emu, it’s the guy who is an idiot….Somerville won its opener over Olney Charter (Philadelphia), 25-0….On the uniform front, I liked the white ones from Penns Grove, the red jerseys of Ocean City, and the home green uniforms of Cedar Creek….That’s all for now. I will return next week with some more bull!
