Bull Session Week Six
October 14, 2026
A moment of silence for Mike Ditka, the Hall of Fame tight end and Super Bowl-winning coach, who passed away a few days ago. Whether you are a pro, college, or high school football fan, Mike Ditka is what football is all about. He expanded the role of the tight end and coached the Bears to a Super Bowl championship as a coach. A competitor and a character, there will never be another guy like Iron Mike, and you youngsters should check him out on YouTube…. New Jersey has big games this weekend, ones that may shake up my team rankings next Tuesday. Old Tappan vs. Northern Highlands, Westwood vs. Hoboken, Donovan Catholic vs. Red Bank Catholic, Winslow vs. Washington Township, Millville vs. Atlantic City, Camden vs. Glassboro, Pinelands vs. Barnegat, West Morris vs. West Essex, Wayne Hills vs. Ramapo, Southern vs. Middletown North, Bridgewater-Raritan vs. Phillipsburg, Paramus Catholic vs. St. Peter’s Prep, Brick Memorial vs. Rumson-Fair Haven, Mount Olive vs. Roxbury, Don Bosco vs. DePaul, West Deptford vs. Delran, Hillside vs. Manville, Irvington vs. East Orange, and several other games…. If you’re surprised by Paramus Catholic’s win over Bergen Catholic, don’t be. They are a good team that’s played a brutal schedule and is hitting its stride. I don’t think the Paramus Catholic win over Bergen Catholic is an upset. PC is a good team. In the game, they rushed for 469 yards per nj.com, plus 110 yards passing, and the Paladins had 578 yards of total offense… I saw a terrific game on Saturday when Waldwick/Midland Park edged Rutherford in double overtime, 43-42. If Bergen and Bosco played this game, there would be so much press about how great the game was…. I saw some top receiving performances last weekend by Tyson Watkins of Passaic Tech on Friday night and Will Holman of Rutherford on Saturday afternoon….. The “wow” of the week for me was Teaneck beating Ridgewood…. The st. Joe’s (Montvale) black alternative look is awful: all-black with green numbers with white trim. Try reading those numbers from 100 feet away. Aren’t they the Green Knights? They should wear green, not black….. I was at Union City on Friday for their game with Passaic Tech. Their field is on top of the school and a good place to see a game. One can see the Manhattan skyline in the right place…. Boy, weren’t the Giants given a gift in their tie with Washington. Poor clock management by Washington, reminiscent of the Herm Edwards School of Clock Management when he coached the Jets….. What a killer loss for the Eagles against Jacksonville ….. And last year’s Giants would have been 1-4 against the teams they have played so far…. We have been hit hard in the New York area with knee injuries. Jaxson Dart and Brian Burns for the Giants, and last week saw Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin join them…. I mentioned pre-game music from last week. I love hard-rocking tunes, but some R&B tunes that would qualify as football music: Super Freak by Rick James and Come And Get Your Love by Redbone….. NJ College Scene: Princeton is 3-1 after beating Wagner, 28-13, 4-2 Monmouth had a bye, 4-1 Rowan had a big win over #12 Sailsbury, 2-3 TCNJ beat Castleton 38-23, 4-1 Montclair State beat 0-5 William Paterson 42-0, 1-3 Kean lost to #13 Christopher Newport 31-20, and 0-5 FDU (Florham) lost to Albright 30-17…. Top performances that jumped out at me, courtesy of nj.com: Passing: Brady Williams of Rumson-Fair Haven: 29-54-387-2, Ryan Hogan of Chatham: 27-38-356-4, Robert O’Connor of Millville: 15-19-346-5, Keeanu Darji of Timber Creek: 11-17-331-6, Anthony Tirico of Seneca: 13-15-331-5, Zachary Concepcion of East Orange: 9-12-316-4, Zymere Weaver of St. Thomas Aquinas: 14-15-260-2, Jaime Marin of Immaculata: 22-26-259-4, Adam Sepe of Caldwell: 10-11-215-5….Rushing: Kobe St. Hilaire of New Milford: 23-428-5, Andrew Geisen of Vernon: 24-338-5, Abel Paul of Livingston: 24-322-3, Matt McKeever of Summit: 19-304-4, Axcel Bailey of Overbrook: 31-295-5, Jorheny Rodriguez of Garfield: 24-280-6, Roy Alvarado of Roxbury: 18-264-4, Gabe Kemp of Red Bank Catholic: 32-256-2; CJ Griffith of Ridge: 30-256-4, Josiah Chaplain III of Boonton: 17-217-3, Amauris Peguero of Perth Amboy: 38-196-6…. Receiving: Tyson Watkins of Passaic Tech: 9-246-4, Will Holman of Rutherford: 7-230-4, Nate Sauerwald of Seneca: 7-221-4, Amir Culbertson of Timber Creek: 5-195-2, Jonah Carbon of Pompton Lakes: 6-182-2, Delano Mann of Bishop Eustace: 8-182-1, Arel Rosario of Perth Amboy: 9-170-0, Nick Lagonowich of Chatham: 12-153-2, Andrew Baginski of Montville: 6-149-2, Amir Roberts of Millville: 4-147-3 ….That’s all for this week! I will be back soon with more bull!
