Post 1,833 – Bull Session Week Five

Bull Session Week Five

October 7, 2026

Big comeback wins for Bergen Catholic and Caldwell against previously undefeated teams last weekend. BC came back from a 24-0 deficit to beat Don Bosco with 16 seconds left, 34-30. Behind 28-6 in the third quarter, Caldwell rallied to beat West Essex, 32-28, with 2:43 remaining….Winslow had a big win, surprising Red Bank Catholic this past Saturday night, 31-24, featuring a big night for Ka’ron Caesar…. I was watching the Camden vs. Odessa Permian (Tx) broadcast on YouTube. It was the local Texas broadcast, featuring two good ole boys doing the announcing with local Texas commercials….. Kudos to Cadel Barilford for hustling down the entire field to tackle the St. Peter’s Prep defender inside the 5-yard line after Seton Hall fumbled on fourth-and-goal inside the opposite 5-yard line. It is plays like that that get players noticed by college coaches….I am happy Igor Shesterkin is the first Rangers goalie to score a goal in franchise history, but why did Tampa Bay pull the goalie when they were down by three goals?…. On my way to Ramapo last Friday, up Route 208, my iPod ran out of juice, and I had to listen to the radio. Q104 played, by my count, eleven commercials, then a sports short, a Shadow Traffic alert, another commercial, then played some music…. Another term I hate is when the announcer says the player “Puts the ball on the ground.” Why not make it easy and say he fumbled?…. When Ramapo and Phillipsburg moved up to Group 5, they changed the quality of each group, with 5 being stronger and 4 weaker…. I like hearing good music before games, but it needs to be hard-driving football music, rock music. Some of the tunes played aren’t football music. We need something that makes us tap our toes, shake our butt, and get hit with a 2 x 4 across the head. It’s good to hear Thunderstruck by AC/DC, but they have other good tunes. Some tunes to play are Highway Star by Deep Purple, Every Man Should Know by Blackfoot, or the live Pat Travers version of Boom Boom (Out Go the Lights)…. When a team goes to some alternate uniforms, they can lose their identity. I saw some team on the tube and thought they were bad Seattle Seahawks uniforms, but it was the Buffalo Bills…. With the regular season starting earlier, I don’t like the Saturday afternoon games played in hot temperatures….
