Post 983 – Bull Session Week Six

South Jersey Group 1 is unbelievably tough. Woodstown knocked off Salem one week ago and this weekend, Woodbury knocked off Woodstown. Salem also lost to Paulsboro this weekend, with Paulsboro rebounding from an 0-3 start. Paulsboro started their first three games with a brutal gauntlet of Haddonfield, Woodstown, and Woodbury. Believe me, the North Jersey Group 1 schools would not survive this schedule and Salem, the defending South Jersey Group 1 champion, beat Cedar Grove, 53-12, and that was no fluke….It was a good win for Paramus Catholic this past Saturday over Seton Hall Prep. Everybody is better off with a strong Paramus Catholic in the Catholic community. And unlike other Catholic school fans, I have no problem with that….One tough dude from the Shore Conference is Colin Gallagher from Middletown South and while we’re there, people should look out for Rumson-Fair Haven in the Group 2 playoffs. I have them ranked at 3-3 because their losses come to Toms River North, Donovan Catholic, and Middletown South. Let’s see how a Group 1 or Group 2 would do against those three. In addition, RFH plays Red Bank Catholic next week….There’s a big western Morris County showdown Friday night showdown with a couple of undefeated teams when West Morris travels to meet Randolph….I did one of my video game reports this week when North Hunterdon went against Montgomery. It was two good football teams and it is a section of New Jersey that gets overlooked: the Somerset/Hunterdon/Warren county area. Another good program from that region is Delaware Valley….One of the nicest places to see a football game is Indian Hills. Unfortunately, their football fortunes have been mostly down over the last fifteen years and it has been a while since I have been there….If Chris Berman did his little nicknames for high school football, there would be two good ones. Rutherford quarterback Van Weber would be Van “Halen” Weber, while Clifton quarterback Romelo Tables would be Romelo “Turn The” Tables….I mentioned how Giant quarterback Daniel Jones looks uptight, but he turned in a tough, gutty performance in their win over Green Bay….Another quarterback I saw last week that impressed me was North Arlington’s Devin Rivas….Lenape is on the upswing, winning two tough games against Millville and Cherokee. This week, they get another tough game in St. Joe’s (Hammonton)….7-0 Toms River North has outscored their opponents, 331-55 and 263-7 in their last five games….Uniforms: I loved the all-red look Haddonfield displayed last week against Camden….One of the more interesting names comes from Overbrook quarterback DeAngello Conquest and he threw for 386 yards and six touchdowns last weekend, going 18-of-24….Two other passing performances that popped out at me were Orange’s Maurice Williams going 10-12-303-5 and Randolph’s Sean Clark with 8-11-236-3….Now that I mentioned Chris Berman, we could have Maurice “Stay, Just a Little Bit Longer” Williams….For dual-purpose quarterbacks, it is hard to top Brick Memorial’s Connor Dietz, going 14-16-174-3 passing and 12-129-3 rushing and kicking four extra points….Kevin Regula of Pascack Valley rushed for 372 yards on 13 carries, while sister school’s Alejandro Camarena of Pascack Hills ran for 255 and five touchdowns….River Dell’s Max Froonjian caught 12 passes to go with an interception and fumble recovery in River Dell’s upset win over Ramapo….A top 2-way performance came from Park Ridge’s Cole Hughes, going 7-11-132-2 passing, rushing for 13-147-1 on offense. On defense, he had 11 tackles, 2 sacks, and 3 tackles for loss….….That’s all for this week! I will be back with more bull next week!!
