2017 In Review: The Dragons were 6-5, losing to Freehold Boro in the Central Jersey Group 4 semi-finals after beating Allentown. They scored 192 points for a 17.45 average, while allowing 168 for a 15.27 average, including three shutouts. Wins included Brick Memorial, Jackson, and Toms River North, while other losses were to St. John Vianney, Lakewood, and Central Regional.
Graduation Losses: TE/DE Chris Hirtes, OL/DL Rahmi Halk – Warriors JC
Offense: Brick runs a multiple-pro offense and return six starters. Quarterback will be shared again by senior Jim Leblo (6-1, 188) and junior Anthony Prato (5-8, 175). Tailback brings back senior Joey Carchio (5-8, 186) and senior Jacob Wynkoop (5-8, 175) will also carry the ball. The h-back will be senior Richie Tallmadge (5-9, 200).
Returning at wide receiver are senior Cole Groschel (6-0, 180) and junior Val Grigorian (5-7, 155). In addition, Prato also saw action there when he wasn’t playing quarterback. The tight end is senior Cory Englehardt (6-4, 230), a defensive starter from last year.
The lone starter back on the line is senior center Zach Piscope (6-1, 270). The guards will be senior Christian Malta (5-9, 215), junior John Beveridge (5-10, 235), and junior Tyler DeTata (5-7, 180). Junior John Costanza (6-3, 210) will man one tackle and the opposite tackle is either freshman Darian Newcomb (6-1, 235) or senior Dayna Andrews (6-0, 305).
Defense: The Dragons run a multiple four-man front and return eight starters and others who played. Englehardt returns at end, with his partner being Costanza, who saw time. Malta returns at tackle and a rotation of junior Jared Keefe (5-7, 180), Andrews, and junior Janiere Reeves (5-9, 270) will also play.
Linebacker has three returning: Carchio and senior John Srtich (5-9, 150) on the outside, plus Tallmadge back at inside with senior Dylan DeAlemeida (5-11, 186) playing next to him after getting time.
The three returning starters in the secondary are senior Mike McGuigan (5-8, 145) at cornerback, Leblo at strong safety, and Groschel at free safety. Prato will play the opposite corner.
Special Teams: Wynkoop returns as the kicker and Carchio is back punting. The return men will be Grigorian, Groschel, and McGuigan.
