Post 730 – Bull Session Week Two

With the season underway, our state took a beating from last week’s storm. Fields and schools have been damaged; more importantly people’s homes have been damaged and let’s hope they can recover quickly….Woodbury opened eyes last week with their 6-0 win over Paulsboro. Teddy Lockhart followed up last week’s performance with 186 yards rushing while Dominic Abbatelli had two sacks and an interception. The Herd has a very good history and alum Anthony Averitt is currently with the Baltimore Ravens….Delsea had an impressive win over Delran….Rumson-Fair Haven was a buzz saw, as I mentioned earlier, against Wall. Their offensive line was very impressive to go with a defense that gets to the ball….An interesting matchup scheduled on short notice was Woodstown travelling to Edison to play St. Thomas Aquinas, a game won by Aquinas, 6-0….Another scheduled that way was Hudson Catholic vs Watchung Hills, won by Hudson Catholic, 13-7….Uniform front: the North Arlington helmet had an emblem that was hard to identify. The Viking emblem was displayed on the Rutgers scoreboard, but seeing it from the sideline was difficult. Perhaps a version of the Minnesota Viking helmet in royal blue would be a better look and they may have had that helmet many years ago….Wood-Ridge, on the other hand, had a good look with an Indianapolis colt-style jersey and a blue helmet….I am not sure whether Tom Brady is the best quarterback ever, but he certainly is the best quarterback in the last 25 years….Holy Spirit-St. Joe’s (Hammonton) looked like a very exciting game with several lead changes before Holy Spirit pulled away behind Gavin Roman’s big plays….Bernards had a big win over Hillside, a team they haven’t beaten in several years….Donovan Catholic beat Archbishop Stepinac of White Plains, NY, 6254-14. I am not surprised Donovan won, but I am surprised by the score….Steve Angeli had a very good game for Bergen Catholic at quarterback. I have been waiting for him to break out and these last two games are good early steps….Hawthorne surprised a few when they defeated Becton…..Cherokee was another eye opener, not that they beat Lenape, but the large margin of victory….The Shore Conference had three very exciting contests last week with Colts Neck scoring late to beat Toms River North, Middletown South beating Manasquan with their late score, and Freehold Boro coming back from a 197 deficit to beat Jackson, 20-19….While not a pet peeve, I am not a fan of the term pick-six. I call it what it ti: an interception returned for a touchdown….River Dell playing Parsippany Hills every year would be a good idea….I heard East Orange-Montclair took 3-½ hours to play….Newton-Sparta was another exciting game, won by Newton, 21-20….Hasbrouck Heights will be a factor in North Jersey Group 1 with several playmakers in Robert Boscarino, Jake Diaz, Josh Rodriguez, and Hunter Freschi….That’s all for now. I will return next week with some more bull!
