Post 602 – Becton 21 Park Ridge 0

I arrived at 6:30 for what was going to be a 7:00 game, except one big thing: when I arrived I heard the PA system. I first thought it must be a junior game behind the field. Only I discovered it wasn’t. It was the Becton-Park Ridge game and it started at 6:00 and not 7. The second quarter was already in progress and Becton was leading, 7-0.

While I got on the field, my friends and colleagues were there and I ceremoniously heaved my clipboard near the end zone: not on the field, of course.  At that point, I didn’t bother covering the game, I would simply watch it.

Becton beat Park Ridge, 21-0, and advanced to the NJIC final next week against either Waldwick or Pompton Lakes. The Wildcats are not only undefeated, but unscored upon. Ryan Reid had a big game on defense; he is a defensive lineman who is very wiry, but he gets to the ball quickly and he intercepted a pass. The Becton defense closes quickly on the ball carrier and they tackle very well. Joe Crifasi is a very good quarterback and does not get the recognition he deserves. That’s really all I can say about the game.

I have Becton ranked at #15 in the Public Groups 1-2 poll and they will climb a few spots next week, depending on how some teams perform today.
