Post 560 – Bull Session, Week One

The season is just about here and better late than never. Let’s hope it can last through Thanksgiving Day…..Several schools have had COVID issues with numerous cancellations this weekend throughout the state – among them are Mahwah, Ramsey, Delran, and St. Augustine…..I will be at the Hackensack-Northern Highlands game Friday night and there are interesting developments in both coaching staffs. Greg Russo of Northern Highlands has had a turbulent summer with health for himself and his newborn child. Meanwhile, Hackensack will be without longtime coach Scooter Whiting on the sideline for the time being. The Board of Education sent him a letter telling him he can’t be a volunteer coach until he can return to school in person and that’s a shame. Due to the COVID, he has a medical issue that keeps him at home instead of going to school. Scooter bleeds Comet Blue and Gold and gives so much of himself to the kids, the program, and Hackensack itself. He is as loyal a Comet as there is. Even if they have a rule for that, I think they can grant him an exemption…..Among the schools looking for a game was Vineland when St. Augustine shut down for a few weeks with the COVID. They weren’t successful and will be idle this weekend…..I heard Lenape only had one practice, as they were shut down and their game this week is off…..One of the Friday games I was considering was Clifton at Passaic Tech, but Tech postponed or cancelled their game…..My tentative plan on seeing games is the Publics on Friday night and the Catholics or out-of-area Public on Saturday…..What is the over and under for how many wins the Giants and Jets have combined …..There were not many previews I could produce by starting late because I was concerned whether there would be a season. Many I have done for years, I was unable to…..In conclusion, there may be cancellations and postponements, but we can find a way to complete the season. Many were doubting Major League Baseball when Miami and St. Louis had an outbreak of Corona cases and they completed their seasons…..That’s it for now – I will be back next week with some more bull!
