Post 45 – HS Football – Preview: Rancocas Valley

2017 In Review:  The Red Devils were 10-2, losing to Lenape in the South Jersey Group 5 final after beating Millville and Eastern.  They scored 382 points for a 31.83 average, while allowing 139 for an 11.58 average.  Wins included Lenape, Burlington Township, and Hammonton, while their other loss was to Camden.

Graduation Losses:  RB/DB Iverson Clement – Florida, G/LB Kyle Sapp – Kutztown

Offense:  Rancocas Valley runs a multi-I spread and returns five starters.  Returning at quarterback for his third year is senior Bryce Mangene (6-2, 170).  Running back will have a committee of senior Anthony Moses (5-9, 165), senior Cerrome Hill (6-0, 165), junior Holy Cross transfer Mateo Asis (5-11, 180), and senior Malik Lowe (5-10, 180).

Two receivers return in senior wideouts Danny Kondras (5-8, 165) and Danny Myers (5-11, 165).  In the picture there are junior Jeremiah Washington (6-4, 185) and Asis.

Returning to the line are seniors Drew Bowker (5-10, 185) at center and Nick Maffetone (5-10, 185) at guard.  The opposite guard will be junior Camden Catholic transfer Mark Loveland (6-1, 280), while the tackles are open with senior Tim D’Antonio (5-8, 180), senior Anthony Hernandez (5-11, 190), and sophomore Darius Wakefield (6-1, 260) battling for the two spots.

Defense:  The Red Devils run a 4-3 and return five starters.  Bowker returns at end with D’Antonio and senior Jordan Neal (6-1, 200) on the opposite side.  The tackles will have a rotation of Maffetone, Hernandez, Wakefield, and Loveland.

At linebacker, senior Jesse Eadric (6-2, 225) returns, moving from tackle. In the running with him are Asis, Myers, and junior Jarrett Colon (5-7, 160).

Mangene, Kondras, and Lowe in the secondary and the last spot will be either Washington or Hill.

Special Teams:  Senior Kyle Prescavage returns as the kicker and the punter is unsettled with Mangene a possibility.  The return men will be decided in camp.

Recruits:  Mangene verballed Penn to play baseball.  Kondras is undersized and will go D3, while Bowker will wrestle.  Eadric can wind up somewhere if he puts it together.

Concerns:  New faces and how quickly they take ownership of the team.
