Games To See this Weekend: Week One

South Jersey:

Clearview (1-0) at Highland Regional (0-1), Friday night.  This is a rematch of last year’s South Jersey Group 4 semifinal game, won by Clearview.

Eastern (0-0) at Holy Spirit (0-1), Friday night.  It’s the season opener for Eastern, while Holy Spirit has had two weeks to recover from their loss to Mount St. Joseph (Md.)

Shawnee (1-0) at Cherokee (1-0), Friday night. Big rivalry between sister schools and both are coming off wins by a combined 86 points.

St. Augustine (0-1) at Lenape (1-0), Friday night. Lenape is ready for a big year and they go against St. Augustine, who lost two weeks ago to State College, Pa.

Willingboro (1-1) at Delsea (0-0), Friday night. Delsea is playing their opening game, while Willingboro is playing their third.

Camden (1-0) at Cedar Creek (2-0), Saturday afternoon. This is a good matchup between two of the best teams in a loaded South Jersey Group 2.

Shore Conference:

Holmdel (0-0) at Shore (1-0), Friday night.  Shore had a 35-6 win in the opener last week and Holmdel is playing their opener.

Middletown South (0-1) at St. John Vianney (0-0), Friday night. St. John Vianney play their opener and Middletown South began a very tough schedule last week, losing to Manalapan.

Jackson (1-0) at Mater Dei (1-0), Saturday afternoon. Both teams won their openers and Jackson will face a stern test in the Seraphs.

Brick Memorial (0-1) at Brick (0-1), Saturday afternoon. A crosstown rivalry that has been in Brick’s favor in recent years. Brick Memorial is trying to reverse that.

Greater Middlesex Conference:

Sayreville (0-1) at Piscataway (1-0), Friday night. One of the biggest rivalries in Central Jersey. While Piscataway won the opener, Sayreville lost and 2005 was the last year the Bombers opened up 0-2.

Woodbridge (1-0) at Colonia (0-1), Friday night. Intra-township rivalry, as Colonia is part of Woodbridge. Woodbridge comes off a good win over St. Joe’s (Metuchen), while Colonia lost by one to Bridgewater-Raritan.

Mid-State 38:

Bridgewater-Raritan (1-0) at Hillsborough (1-0), Friday night. Bridgewater-Raritan comes off a one-point win and Hillsborough had a 34-0 win over Elizabeth.

Ridge (0-0) at Hunterdon Central (1-0), Friday night. Two of Central Jersey’s best. Hunterdon Central had an impressive win over Sayreville and Ridge opens the season.

Bernards (0-0) at Hillside (1-0), Saturday afternoon. Hillside has won the last two Central Jersey Group 2 titles and the only two losses for Bernards last year came against Hillside.

Super Football Conference/NJIC:

Cresskill (1-0) at Becton (1-0), Friday night. Cresskill opened eyes last week with a 35-14 win over Hasbrouck Heights and Becton breezed to a win over North Arlington. The winner makes a big step forward in both North Jersey sections in Group 1.

Old Tappan (1-0) at Ridgewood (0-0), Friday night. Two of Bergen County’s best publics face off. Old Tappan won the last two encounters and had an impressive last-second win last week, while Ridgewood is playing its first game.

Hackensack (1-0) at Passaic Tech (1-0), Friday night. Hackensack won last year’s contest in a series that has been heavily in Passaic Tech’s favor. The winner takes a big step in the playoff race in North Jersey Section 1 Group 5.

Irvington (1-0) at Union City (1-0), Friday night. Two good teams meet on the roof in Union City. The speed of Irvington goes against the power of Union City.

Madison (0-0) at Mountain Lakes (1-0), Friday night. Two Morris County rivals meet. Madison is attempting to bounce back from two seasons without playoffs. Mountain Lakes is a long-time power.

Parsippany Hills (1-0) at River Dell (1-0), Friday night. River Dell is the favorite, but Parsippany Hills may make things interesting after an unusual down season.

Shabazz (1-0) at West Side (1-0), Saturday afternoon. A couple of Newark rivals square off and Shabazz won last year, 37-6. However, West Side is on the upswing.

Northern Highlands (0-1) vs. Clifton (1-0) at West Point, Saturday afternoon. Clifton won last year’s contest in Canton, Ohio and it moves to Michie Stadium at West Point.

Kittatinny (1-0) at Wallkill Valley (1-0), Saturday afternoon. Wallkill Valley won last year, 6-2, and Kittatinny comes off a sectional title.

Wayne Hills (0-2) at Wayne Valley (1-0), Saturday night. Another battle of Wayne between these bitter rivals. Wayne Valley won their out-of-state game last week and Wayne Hills lost theirs two weeks ago.
