2018 in Review:

  • Lost to Penns Grove in the South Jersey Group 1 semi-finals  
  • Beat Glassboro in the first round 
  • Scored 332 points – 33.2 average
  • Allowed 98 points – 9.8 average, including three shutouts  
  • Wins Included: Pleasantville, Middle Township, Gloucester Catholic, Clayton 
  • Losses: No losses in regular season

Offense:

Quarterback:  

  • Luke Santiago, Senior, 5-10, 175 – returning starter
  • Cael Aretz, Junior, 5-8, 150 – providing depth   

Fullback:  

  • Shayron Smith-Bey, Sophomore, 5-11, 195 – started on defense and spotted on offense 

Halfbacks:  

  • Byron Spellman, Senior, 6-1, 225 – returning starter
  • Samir Garrison, Freshman, 5-9, 165 – will start 
  • Louis Sairi, Senior, 5-10, 170 – will start
  • Maurice Davis, Junior, 5-6, 145 – will provide depth 
  • Danan Reynolds, Senior, 5-8, 165 – will provide depth 
  • *Buena will use three halfbacks in their Wing-T, with each rotating as a split end 

Tight End:  

  • TJ Jacobs, Senior, 6-1, 200 – will start, started on defense  
  • Luke Maxwell, Freshman, 6-0, 175 – will play in two-tight end situations 

Tackle:  

  • Tony Thompson, Junior, 6-2, 215 – returning starter, moving from tight end to left tackle 
  • Garrett Ancheta, Senior, 5-10, 225 – will start at right tackle  
  • Ben Davis, Sophomore, 5-10, 245 – will provide depth at right tackle 
  • Reno Ripa, Senior, 5-8, 300 – will provide depth at left tackle 

Guards:  

  • Sam Drogo, Senior, 5-11, 195 – returning starter at left guard 
  • Gavin Ancheta, Senior, 5-10, 210 – returning starter at right guard 
  • Aaron Wisher, Senior, 5-10, 200 – will provide depth here and at center 
  • Nick Wiker, Sophomore, 5-9, 185 – will provide depth at guard 

Center:  

  • Anthony Grieco, Senior, 6-1, 305 – returning starter, moving from left tackle 

Defense:  

  • Formation: 3-3 stack
  • Returning Starters: 7 

Ends:  

  • Tony Thompson, Junior – returning starter
  • Dashaun Sykes, Senior, 6-3, 185 – will start or rotate 

Nose Guard:  

  • Anthony Grieco, Senior – will start here, saw time last year, and will rotate at end 
  • Denzel Dixon, Senior, 6-7, 315 – will rotate   

Inside Linebackers:  

  • Strong Side: Sam Drogo, Senior – returning starter
  • Weak Side: Gavin Ancheta, Senior – returning starter
  • Middle: Aaron Wisher, Senior – will start
  • Nick Wiker, Sophomore – will provide depth in middle 

Outside Linebacker:  

  • TJ Jacobs, Senior – returning starter
  • Danan Reynolds, Senior – will rotate 
  • Shayron Smith-Bey, Sophomore – see his listing at cornerback   

Cornerback:  

  • Byron Spellman, Senior – returning starter who might also play on defensive line 
  • Shayron Smith-Bey, Sophomore – returning starter who may play outside linebacker 
  • Maurice Davis, Junior – competing

Safety:  

  • Luke Santiago, Senior – returning starter

Special Teams: 

  • Aretz returns at kicker and Spellman will punt after sharing duties last year
  • Garrison and Smith-Bey will be the return men

Recruiting:  

  • Spellman is a good player who will play somewhere 
  • Thompson is a junior who is a top student who can play 1-AA or higher with a good junior year 
  • Two freshmen, Samir Garrison and Luke Maxwell, are very talented and their futures will be determined over the next four years 

Coach’s Comments:  

“We’re excited about the season. We lost some good seniors, but some good players return, including the quarterback. We also have some good players in the sophomore and freshman classes. However, everything remains to be seen.” – Head Coach Jonathan Caputo
