Post 2,111 – Bull Session Week Six

Bull Session Week Six

October 5, 2023

This has become a weird season of high school football with the weather. Four weeks ago, there were lightning delays, lots of rain two weeks ago, rain last weekend, and it looks like more this weekend. It’s not fun and it plays with the mind. I stayed home last Friday night and Saturday afternoon, covering games from Youtube. I prefer to go to the actual game, but not as willing to do it in the rain as my age advances … .When did penalty flags become laundry? I don’t see shirts, underwear, and other items. It’s simply a flag … .Giant tackle Evan Neal just sounded off on the fans for booing this past Monday night. Eagle and Jet fans can relate to this. I think it’s a battle he can’t win and he was never hated by the fans, but that is going to change quickly. He has apologized and I hope it is sincere. Then he can work on improving his performance…..I heard during the game at St. Mary’s vs. Wood-Ridge that a player was hurt and placed in the ambulance. The ambulance came on the field: real grass field in rainy conditions for the last few days. When the ambulance went to leave, it became stuck and needed a push out, leaving a tire track in the field when it finally moved … .I saw something that was written last week that mentioned it was the anniversary of Bloomfield coach Mike Carter and his first game, a win over Montclair in 1991. Fast forward 32 years and some teams were getting ready to play their sixth game…..Watching some U2 clips at the brand new Sphere in Las Vegas, which is a visual marvel. I would love to see a show of some band or act there…..Performances that stood out to me per nj.com are: Passing….Connor Dietz of Brick Memorial completing 11 of 11 passes for 174 yards and 2 scores, Kyree Fisher of East Orange completing 23 of 29 for 364 yards and 4 touchdowns, Frankie Billings of Hasbrouck Heights going 15-18-224-3, Stephen Paradiso of Cedar Grove with 15-18-234-3, Luke Hanuscin of Robbinsville going 21-24-206-1, Joe Lyons of Atlantic City completing 11 of 16 for 236 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Waldwick/Midland Park’s Alex Caserta completing 7 of 8 for 170 yards….. Rushing: Hackensack’s Ayden Jones gaining 348 yards and 3 touchdowns on 26 carries, Logan Pych of Vernon gaining 337 yards and 4 touchdowns on 38 carries, Kenny Smith of Hammonton going 30-295-3, Jackson’s Jonah Glenn with 23-274-3, Kyree Fisher of East Orange gaining 162 yards on 14 carries, Carteret’s Jakir Thomas gained 154 yards and 4 touchdowns on 10 carries, and Nazir Treadwell of Keyport with 11-218-3…..Receiving Cam Miller of Winslow catching 5 for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns, Dane Sorenson of Bridgewater-Raritan with 12 receptions for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns,  Matt D’Avino of Montgomery with 9-122-3, Tyshawn Boyd of Orange with 6 receptions for 152 and 2 scores, Paris Pratt of St. Augustine with 9 receptions for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Plainfield’s Joel Cordoba with 7-144-1…..Speaking of performances, I mentioned Kyree Fisher, who had 526 yards of total offense….An old-fashioned fullback is Phillipsburg’s John Wargo and he is effectively used as a blocker and a runner. He also stands out on defense and placed as a heavyweight wrestler in the states last spring….Keep an eye on Bridgewater-Raritan. If they make the playoffs, they may be 1-5, but their losses are by 6, 8, 10, 7, and 6 points…..That’s all for this week; I will be back with more bull next week!
