Post 2,093 – Bull Session Week Three

Bull Session Week Three

September 13, 2023

I was stupid enough to think the Giants were going to be competitive, but Sunday night’s game against Dallas and last year’s playoff game against the Eagles show they cannot compete with an elite team. San Francisco will have their way with them next week. Right now, the Cowboys and Eagles do not respect the Giants….The older I get, the less I enjoy early season games on Saturday. It is either hot, humid, or both. It is getting to the point where I prefer the cold late in the season, especially if it isn’t windy….Another thumbs down on uniforms goes to Pennsauken. It wouldn’t be bad, but the red swirl on white pants is awful…. I forgot to mention in last week’s edition that Bogota beat Capital Prep in Harlem (NY) at a field outside Yankee Stadium … .Hats off to Deion Sanders with what he has done at Colorado in their first two games. We will see how it turns out the rest of the year….One of the state’s best receivers is Old Tappan’s Evan Brooks…. A hard luck team after two games is Howell, who is 0-2, losing one game by a point and the other by two points….Back in 1998, when Bergen Catholic had a phenomenal team, some guy thought they should play a top team in Ohio and I thought he was crazy because it involved high school kids. Look what has happened since with national games featuring teams outside the state….Lightning struck last weekend, I went to Bergenfield at River Dell, which had a 90-minute lightning delay, I stayed home for Old Tappan and covered it from the internet and they had a 30-minute delay, and went to St. Joe’s (Montvale)-Don Bosco game and I went home when the first delay occurred … .While I covered Old Tappan, I had other broadcasts from South Jersey on, including Cedar Creek-Ocean City, Mainland-Oakcrest, and St. Augustine-Cherokee. I also watched the last quarter of Pope John-Paramus Catholic….Some performances that stood out, courtesy of nj.com and jerseysportszone.com are: quarterbacks Luke Wiedau of Allentown passing for 317 yards and 2 scores, going 19 of 34, while rushing for 96 and 2 touchdowns on 14 carries; 413 yards of total offense….Atlantic City’s Joe Lyons passing for 5 touchdowns and 218 yards, going 16 of 24….Winslow’s Jalen Parker going 16 of 22 for 301 yards and 3 touchdowns….Billy Smith of Cedar Creek going 16 of 20 for 362 yards and 2 touchdowns….Miles O’Neal of Hun going 11 of 13 for 295 yards and 4 touchdowns….In the running game, Carter Shallcross of Summit gained 224 yards and 3 touchdowns on 22 carries….Pascack Valley’s Kevin Regula had 261 yards and 5 touchdowns on 20 carries….Darien Woody of Florence gained 206 yards on only 8 carries….Chiekezie Ogbuewu of Dunellen had 12 carries for 274 yards and 4 touchdowns…. Rashawn Marshall of Weequahic going for 160 yards and 4 scores on 13 carries….Josh Love of Manchester Township gaining 234 yards and 4 touchdowns on 9 carries … .. On the receiving end, Watchung Hills’ Jack Clintock caught 7 for 192 yards and 2 scores…. Evan Brooks of Old Tappan with 8 receptions for 131 yards….Joe Ciccotelli of Parsippany Hills catching 11 for 139 yards….Cam Miller of Winslow with 8 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown….It is surprising to see recent South Jersey Group 1 powers Salem, Paulsboro, and Penns Grove being a combines 0-8….That’s all for now, I will be back next week with more bull!
