Post 186 – HS Football – Bull Session Week 10

It was great to see the fan support Lyndhurst brought with them last Saturday night to Verona.  It is a long-time football town that has been lying dormant for the last twenty years or so.  With a last minute win, they now travel one town over to Rutherford and that crowd will be at Tryon Field.  It is making me seriously consider going to that game. It’s either that or Ramapo-River Dell……….The one thing that stood out during the DePaul-Mater Dei pre-game was the large number of Mater Dei players who pass the eyeball test……….While they did not have the success of last week, Newton and Kittatinny play one another, ensuring a state championship coming out of Sussex County……….One of my favorite team nickname is the Bayonne Bees.  Another unique one is the Phillipsburg Stateliners……….The long-awaited rematch of last year’s Central Group 3 is here: Somerville-Rumson Fair Haven……….The South Jersey Group 2 final between Haddonfield and Camden is as exciting as any……….For those who care, there are six rematches in the Public school sectional finals: Newton-Kittatinny, Ramapo-River Dell, Wayne Hills-Old Tappan, Sayreville-North Brunswick, Salem-Penns Grove, and Williamstown-Rancocas Valley……….Lets not forget, the Group 2 final in the Catholics has another rematch: St. Joe’s (Hammonton)-Holy Spirit……….In the North Group 1, Hasbrouck Heights was pushed over into Section 2 at the last minute.  They would have been the top seed in Section 1, but now they are on the road against Shabazz.  Not only that, the two best teams in North Group 1 are playing one another in Hasbrouck Heights and Shabazz……….Pet Peeves: The term, “not so fast.”  Someone states something and another gives that reply, as if they have something over you.  If you wish to offer a counterpoint, fine; it can be said a different way. The phrase annoys me……….Unless the weather postpones some Friday night games until Saturday, I will be heading to Oradell to see another Bergen Catholic-Don Bosco game……….I know the off-season has arrived for many when I see that a couple of head coaches have resigned already……….The one thing I like about the Bowl Game setup at Giants Stadium is I will see a bunch of good teams I do not get the chance to see, especially from South Jersey……….Uniform Front:  The Good:  The Ramapo classic dark green and white.  Two South Jersey teams I saw earlier this year: Penns Grove and Paulsboro, with both in red and white.  Rumson-Fair Haven’s purple and white. The Bad:  Nothing I can think of this week, which proves I am not a negative guy……….Mater Dei’s defeat of DePaul shows that other Catholic schools around the state can beat the Parochials from North Jersey.  But, until proven otherwise, they will not be able to do it consistently.  The same applies to a public school in New Jersey……….Imagine if they had the sectional finals at Giants Stadium, Kean, Rutgers, and Rowan!  Who would play at Giants Stadium and would there be Thursday night games?……….Just imagine, there are only three weeks left to this season……….That’s it for now.  I will be back with more bull next week!
