Bull Session Week Six
October 21, 2026
On Friday, I will be at the NJIC championship with Waldwick/Midland Park visiting Garfield. On Saturday, I will be at Bergen-Joe’s…. I liked the college football playoffs expanding to 12 teams. I can even handle 16, but 24 is too much…. Legendary coach Greg Toal once said, “Every coach should coach Group 1 for at least one year.” ….My theory on more public-school recruiting is the success Catholic schools have had; some public-school coaches said to themselves, “Why not us?”…. Jersey City public schools have a combined 3-17 record. Two, Dickinson and Ferris, are in the SFC Ivy Division, while Lincoln and Snyder are not. Speaking of the Ivy Division, the SFC already has two divisions and could easily add a third. …. Kudos to Washington Township for being 7-0 after losing many starters from last year’s state championship team…. I am not surprised that Wayne Hills beat Ramapo last Friday night, but I am surprised they put them on a running clock…. I was going to go to the Westwood-Hoboken game, but the threat of thunderstorms kept me home. I tried to cover the game on the stream, but Westwood’s red numbers on black jerseys made it hard to identify players. And that is besides the fact that I hate it when they wear all black…. I ended up watching several games, and two good games were Wallkill Valley-Kinnelon and Vernon-West Milford…. There is no truth to the rumor that LSU Coach Lane Kiffin annoys people by saying “good morning.”….With the playoffs a little over a week away, I prefer the old four-group formula. There are too many teams in the current five-group formula that don’t deserve to be there….. If you put money on the Cleveland Browns being 4-2 at this point, you could have made serious money. The same can be said for the LA Chargers being 0-6…. Is it me, or do I see an increasing number of college football games with dreadful attendance?…. Boy, am I glad my wife and I went to Paris in August instead of right now with all the riots….. NJ College Scene: Princeton is 4-1 after beating Brown, 16-10, 5-2 Monmouth beat New Hampshire, 42-21, 5-1 Rowan beat 1-4 Kean, 17-14, 4-2 Montclair State lost to #13 Christopher Newport, 21-14, 3-3 TCNJ beat 0-6 William Paterson 42-0, and 0-6 FDU (Florham) lost to Misericordia 28-7…. Pet Peeves: I see someone I haven’t seen in a while, and he/she says “I haven’t seen you in ages” or “Where’ve you been?” as if it’s my fault. I answer “I haven’t seen you, either” or “Same as I’ve ever been.”….
