Manasquan 28 Matawan 0

 Manasquan jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead, and that was the final score, as they beat Matawan 28-0. They did it with a strong rushing attack and by taking advantage of first-half opportunities. 

First Quarter: After a Matawan punt, Manasquan did the same, but the Matawan returner muffed the ball, and Manasquan recovered on the Matawan 33. Two runs by Dax Klein gave them a first down on the 21, and Wyatt Sowul scored on the next play for a 7-0 Manasquan lead. 

Second Quarter: Matawan picked up two first downs, but Sowul intercepted on the Manasquan 42 and returned it to the 1-yard line. On the following play, Tommy Certo ran it in for the score, and it was 14-0. Two plays later, Connor Lalli intercepted on the Matawan 48, giving the Warriors good field position. It took them six plays to score, with Klein going in on an 8-yard run. Matawan picked up two first downs, but a Ryder Boyle sack ended the drive, and Manasquan had the ball on their own 47. Five plays later, Klein scored on another 8-yard run to make it 28-0 with 39 seconds left. The big play on the drive was a 25-yard quarterback run by Kyle Dow. 

Third Quarter: Manasquan came out and consumed nearly eight minutes, staying mostly on the ground. But a few penalties forced them to punt, which was blocked by AJ Deo and recovered by JJ Oshin, giving Matawan the ball on the Manasquan 43. After picking up a first down, their drive ended with three straight incomplete passes, giving the ball to Manasquan. 

Fourth Quarter: On their next possession, Manasquan began some substitutions, and the quarter was uneventful. 

Comments: Manasquan controlled the game. They stayed mainly on the ground, attempting only eight passes. They gained 200 yards rushing and 42 passing. Klein rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. They had good field position in the first half. The muffed punt gave them the ball on the Matawan 33; interceptions gave them the ball on the 1-yard line and the Matawan 48, and their last touchdown began on their 47. While they didn’t score in the second half, they stayed on the ground and controlled the clock.

Matawan made too many mistakes and could not sustain any drives. They picked up one or two first downs before drives ended. They gained only 122 yards of total offense on six drives, not including the last drive of the first half that ended with them taking a knee.
