Post 1,408 – Bull Session Week Zero

Bull Session Week Zero

Week zero is complete and the week-one schedule comes this weekend. Since I did not attend one scrimmage this year, I was happy to see some games…..The best play I saw this weekend came when Old Tappan’s Mike Gracey returned an interception 59 yards for a touchdown on the game’s first series, living out every lineman’s dream. If Chris Berman were there, he would have said “rumbling, bumbling, stumbling,” and I was even yelling “he could go….all….the….way!” Big State Sports has the broadcast on YouTube if anyone wants to see it….Congratulations to Bridgeton for their first win after being winless the last two years. Kudos to Williamstown for their first win after being winless last year….What happened to people saying penalty flags are on the field? Now it’s laundry. I do not see sox and underwear on the field, I see nothing but yellow flags….NFC East: I have said for the last several months that the Giants will be 6-11 and I am standing firm. There are too many question marks. That said, I hope they win Sunday against Minnesota. The Eagles should win the division, but I wonder how they replace the leadership of Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox…. I thank the many coaches for assisting me with the team previews throughout the summer; I couldn’t have done it without them. There was a small percentage I could not reach after numerous attempts and I am strongly considering not calling them next summer with the possibility of calling them the following year. It is not fun to call someone and get nothing but voice mail. I know there were times when he simply did not pick up the phone….Transfers are out of control on the high school level and having the transfer portal in college doesn’t help matters. It used to be when one saw a sophomore impress on the field, he would be at that school through high school. But that is in the past. One player is in his fourth school in four years and another is a junior in his third school in three. Would anyone be surprised if the junior was elsewhere next year? Unfortunately, we are going to have to get used to it…..Some players who caught my eye, courtesy of nj.com: Passing: Hun’s Jack Moran going 18-27-517 yards and 5 touchdowns (28.72 yards per completion and 19.14 yards per attempt), Delbarton’s Jadon Prinzivalli completing 16-23-337 yards and 4 touchdowns, Hopewell Valley’s Milan Desai with 17-18-281 and 2 touchdowns while rushing for two scores, Danny Ferrauilo of Wayne Valley competing 23 of 26 for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns….Rushing: Justin Griffin of Passaic ran for 304 yards and 3 scores on 23 carries, Collingswood’s Caden Luby with 205 yards and 4 touchdowns on 23 carries, Clayton’s Demetrius Williams with 205 yards and 3 scores on 13 carries, and Newark Central’s Jahsyn Reid with 147 yards and 3 touchdowns on 9 carries….Receiving: Delbarton’s Philip Folmar with 6 receptions for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns, Hun’s Bryce Kania with 5 catches for 224 yards and 3 touchdowns, Millville’s Lotzeir Brooks catching 5 for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns, Hopewell Valley’s Justin Klotz catching 8 for 162 yards, and Cedar Grove’s Jackson Morrice with 11 receptions for 118 yards and 2 scores….Others to consider are Newark Eastside quarterback Xavier Smith passed for 92 yards, ran for 113, and scored the last-minute, game-winning touchdown in their 8-6 win over Plainfield….Another is Pingry quarterback Ryan Moye going 20-29-4 and rushing for 62 and 2 scores in a 53-14 win over St. Luke’s (Ct.)….That’s all for this week! I will be back with more bull soon!
