Post 1,566: Bull Session Playoffs Week Three

Bull Session Playoffs Week Three

November 20, 2025

I am back in Jersey after spending last weekend in the Nashville area. I kept track of the scores, mostly through Twitter, and knew who won and lost, both Friday night and Saturday afternoon…..Friday night, I will attend the Old Tappan vs. West Morris game at Old Tappan, a matchup of undefeated teams. This is a matchup I have been anticipating since the preseason. It is the North Jersey Group 3 final that has teams with contrasting styles…..Many games will be on Big State Sports via YouTube…..There will be a Group 2 state final played during the week because three of the four teams will be playing Thanksgiving games. Only Westwood does not play. Group 4 will be a weekday game if Phillipsburg beats Ramapo and Holy Spirit also plays on Thanksgiving, and would play on a weeknight if they beat DePaul in Non-Public B. That means Non-Public A plus Public Groups 1, 3, and 5 will be played on the weekend……With Brian Daboll fired by the Giants just over a week ago, many social media posts have listed possible successors. We have seven weeks left in the season, plus how long it will take to hire a replacement, and I will be exhausted with these posts. In fact, I am already exhausted…..One of the best places to see a college football game is at West Point for Army. Two places I would love to see a game are Michigan and Wisconsin….. I am convinced the Kansas City Chiefs are currently an average team, and if they make the playoffs, it is only because of Patrick Mahomes…..The South Group 3 final has potential offensive fireworks, with Holmdel scoring 479 points and Cedar Creek 405….. In South Group 2, Haddonfield has allowed only 125 points – 89 when the opener against Glassboro is not included. Camden has only allowed 115….In South Group 1, Glassboro has defended its state title by outscoring the opposition, 550-54, with eight shutouts. Burlington City has scored 461 points, and its only loss is to Group 3 Burlington Township, 8-0…..South Group 5 is a rematch between Washington Township and Kingsway, a game won by Township, 39-36. Kingsway also lost to Camden by 5, meaning they are eight points away from being undefeated. Township has five shutouts, while Kingsway has three….. South Group 4 has defending state champ Winslow hosting Brick Memorial. Winslow rebounded from two losses against IMG and Bergen Catholic to go 9-0 since, outscoring opponents, 382-53, with last week’s game against Millville the only game in that span where they allowed 10 or more points…..North Group 1 has Cedar Grove visiting undefeated Butler. Cedar Grove has played the tougher schedule. Both teams feature top quarterbacks in Butler’s David Smith and Cedar Grove’s Pierce Asfalg. I have said throughout the season not to sleep on Cedar Grove….. North Group 2 has a rematch with Shabazz visiting Westwood, a game that Shabazz won. Westwood’s only loss was an overtime game to Caldwell, and the Cardinals avenged that loss in the sectional quarterfinals. Shabazz’s only loss is to St. Peter’s Prep, and they were against the ropes last week against Madison before a late rally…..North Group 4 has Ramapo traveling to Phillipsburg for the second straight year in the North final. P-burg won big, and Ramapo has a chance to avenge that. Both teams have one loss: Ramapo to Old Tappan and Phillipsburg to St. Joe’s (Metuchen)…..North Group 5 has Passaic Tech traveling to Bridgewater-Raritan. Both teams have 9-3 records. Passaic Tech had a 0-2 start and were 3-3 before winning their last six, while avenging a loss to West Orange last week. Bridgewater has not blown out many teams, but they have playmakers, and this could be a high-scoring game…… That’s all for this week! I will be back with more bull soon!
