Westwood 34 Ramsey 7
October 18, 2025
After falling behind, 7-6, in the first quarter, Westwood pulled away with 28 unanswered points to beat Ramsey, 34-7, in a battle of 5-1 teams.
First Quarter: Westwood opened the game with a 6-play, 80-yard drive, scoring on a 47-yard run by Steve Klein for a 6-0 lead. Ramsey came right back on seven plays and went in front, 7-6, on a 29-yard pass from Justus Favata to Roberto Cotes. Westwood scored on the following drive when Bruno Vega found a wide-open Klein in the end zone to make it 13-7. A key play setting up the score was a 40-yard run by Ed Rasmussen. Ramsey threatened with Favata passes to Cotes of 26 and 12 yards, as the Rams advanced to the Westwood 26. However, a Favata run on fourth-and-3 netted only one yard, and Westwood took over on their 18.
Second Quarter: After a Westwood punt, Ramsey had the ball on the Westwood 47, but a fourth-down pass to Jonathan Davis lost five yards, and Westwood took over on their 30-yard line. They marched down the field on eleven plays, and scored when Vega found an open Rasmussen in the end zone for an 18-yard score and a 19-7 lead with 50 seconds left.
Third Quarter: Ramsey consumed five minutes to open the quarter, but a fourth-down pass fell incomplete. Westwood moved behind two Klein runs of 16 and 24 yards, giving the Cardinals a first-and-goal on the 2. Rasmussen took the handoff and cut inside for the touchdown and a 27-7 lead, with Klein running for two points. On the first Ramsey play from scrimmage, Connor Readie intercepted and returned it 28 yards to the 12-yard line. Two plays later, Vega scrambled before running down the right sideline through defenders for the touchdown and a 34-7 lead late in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter: After Ramsey turned it over on downs, Westwood substituted freely and ran out the last 8:44 of the game – all on the ground.
Comments: Westwood was efficient, with the offense gaining 287 yards on the ground, and the defense would bend, but not break. Klein gained 139 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Vega was 11-15 for 74 yards and 2 touchdown passes, while running for a score. Rasmussen was effective on jet sweeps, running for 56 yards and a touchdown, and had another score receiving.
Ramsey had chances. After their first touchdown drive, they made it into Westwood territory numerous times. Their drives took them to Westwood’s 18, 30, 30, 35, and 24, with nothing to show for it. Their top player was Cotes, who had 10 receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown.
