Post 1,539: Bull Session Week Six

Bull Session Week Six

October 16, 2025

My weekend schedule is Westwood at Ramsey on Friday night, followed by Park Ridge at Hasbrouck Heights on Saturday night. I will skip Saturday afternoon and enjoy the day because I am not excited by any of the matchups in the area.….. There are always people at a high school football game who stand behind the fence. Sometimes it is because there are no seats available, but other times, it’s voluntary. If they are happy with that, good for them, but I could never do that because sight lines are limited at best. Depth perception also gets very bad. I like to be able to determine how far a run or pass is, and that is difficult from a distance. I just want to know what is happening at all times…..Before the Giants drafted Jaxson Dart, many assumed they were going to draft Arch Manning in next year’s draft. First, I didn’t know whether he would play one more year. His uncles used up their eligibility, and he might do the same. Now, some say he is disappointing. It is his first year as a starter, and it looks as if he will stay for another year. He should be fine in the long run; he just needs more experience…..One thing I do differently is count the “pop pass” as a run. It is when the quarterback tosses the ball to a receiver, who is running in motion, approximately two feet in front of him. There is less risk in that than there is with an option pitch or a toss play. There are also times when I cannot tell whether it was a handoff or a pop pass. At least with a shovel pass, one can see the quarterback’s motion for that. I don’t see the pop pass as a pass…..A different type of team name is the Caper Tigers of Lower Cape May….. Pleasantville has won its last four, allowing only three points in that span …..I have a 3-month trial with satellite radio. I like the First Wave channel: new wave music from the 80s, although they play too much Depeche Mode for my taste. I forget some of the bizarre names some bands had, such as Echo & the Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, Flesh For Lulu, and Gene Loves Jezebel…..Here are some of the top performances from last weekend, courtesy of nj.com. Passing: Cam Hayes-Durina of Metuchen: 20-23-316-6, Jack Cannon of Holmdel: 16-18-342-3, Jacob Halpin of Central Regional: 11-15-327-1, Ryan Greig of Ewing: 12-15-308-4,   Shane Hoover of Sparta: 16-28-294-6, Jason Lajara of Brick Memorial: 7-9-201-4, Dylan Chiera of Colonia: 20-25-201-4, and Lukas Prock of Hun: 21-29-342-5…..Rushing: Shaun Jackson of Sayreville: 20-338-4, Eddie Novatkowski of New Egypt: 20-247-3, Brayden Longo of Mount Olive: 16-233-5, Abel Paul of Livingston: 16-202-2, Andrew Avent of Rahway: 10-201-3, Takiesse Barnes of Pleasantville: 11-197-2, Jack Cannon of Holmdel: 8-169-4 (to go with his passing), Jake Bruh of Pascack Hills: 4-160-3…..Receiving: Carter Ferris of Madison: 13-182-1, Emanuel Gerena of Holy Spirit: 6-162-3, La-shem Little of Sparta: 5-217-3, James Murphy of Holmdel: 6-201-2, Zahmir Moore of Bound Brook: 4-143-2, Tamir Rex of Atlantic City: 5-136-2, Brady Shine of Hasbrouck Heights: 4-121-2, and Austin Busso of Bergen Catholic: 2-119-2……From the above figures, Cannon had 511 yards of total offense with 4 touchdowns rushing and 3 passing. He has verbally committed to Dartmouth…..Some constructive criticism: Big State Sports does a great job broadcasting games, primarily in northwest Jersey. However, they have the closed captioning on the screen that gets in the way of the score when one tunes into the game. If there is a way to have both up without getting in each other’s way, it would be great…..I do not feel sorry for James Franklin, who was fired at Penn State, not when he is supposed to getting around $50 million dollars in a buyout.….. That’s all for this week! I will be back with more bull soon!
